Monster in the Mansion Mansion Layout: Book Search

The mansion is the whole map in Monster in the Mansion. Learn how rooms connect, which spaces hold books, and how to route runs.

Monster in the Mansion Maps: Where to Search for Books

There is no exit in Monster in the Mansion — the mansion is the map, and it is where you find the books that build the cure. Reading the layout is the difference between a clean book run and a body count. This guide covers routing, not room-by-room lore (which is still unannounced for Early Access).

Think in Lanes, Not Rooms

With seven survivors, assign each wing to a runner pair. The monster cannot cover every lane at once, so spreading book duty forces it to choose. A monster that chases one lane leaves the others free — that is the survivor advantage. Pair this with Communication Tips.

Book-Rich vs Book-Poor Spaces

Book spawns favor rooms the monster patrols, by design — the game wants tension at the pickups. Assume:

  • Open halls and lit rooms = monster traffic. Grab and go.
  • Quiet wings (bedrooms, storage) = safer crafting approaches.
  • Cellar and basement = low visibility for both sides; use with a light.

Route your runners through quiet wings and your decoys through the monster's favored spaces.

Decoy Routing

A decoy's job is to make noise away from the book runners. Run a loud, predictable loop through the monster's patrol zone, then peel into a hide. See Best Hiding Spots for where to break sight.

The Craft Station Approach

The antidote crafts at a fixed station, and crafting is loud. Pre-position a guard there before anyone starts the craft, and keep a second player between the station and the monster's likely approach.
